Mortuary Project Forces Diversion of Health Centre Security Funds

Insecurity is still going to be a threat to Gulu district health centers since the money that was initially planned to cater for fencing has been diverted to mortuary construction due to the urgent need for it in the district.

Dr Kenneth Cana, the Gulu district Health Officer says they had initially planned to fence at least two health facilities every financial year.

However, they have allocated 56 million shillings for the construction of a mortuary due to the urgency.

According to Cana, they are currently using a very small space for both treatment and storing dead bodies at each Health Center IV.

Fencing the health facilities would boost security since health centers have been facing challenges of theft of solar, drugs and supplies among others.

The community has also been intruding and using hospital facilities like latrines among others.
