MP Olanya Says Acholi Backed Museveni for Being the Better Candidate

Dr. Gilbert Olanya, the Member of Parliament of Kilak South in Amuru district says Acholi sub region voted highly for President Yoweri Museveni because he was a better candidate.

Olanya who was addressing journalists at Northern Uganda Media Club (Numec) today afternoon.

He explains that due to a lack of Presidential candidates from Northern Uganda, voters in the region saw Museveni as a better option.

He adds that the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the promised cattle restocking program are some the reasons people in Acholi voted for Museveni.

In the past elections, Acholi sub region has had Norbert Mao of Democratic Party and Olara Otunu of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) contest for the top political seat in the country.

However, this year, Mao opted to support Museveni and as well contest for MP Laroo-Pece division while UPCs Jimmy Akena was denied nomination leaving Northern Uganda without a candidate.

Meanwhile, Olanya also attributes the failure of some MPs in the recent elections to factors such as lacking a connection with the voters.

The legislator says that the science of winning lies in being able to raise issues of

the people without fear or favor in parliament and at the same time being close to the community and supporting them.
