North Kigezi Bishop Marks 3rd Anniversary as Archbishop Kaziimba Bids Farewell

Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, will celebrate the third anniversary of his Episcopal ministry with a thanksgiving service on Sunday.

The event will also coincide with the visit and farewell of the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba.Bishop Asiimwe announced the plans during a press conference at the diocesan headquarters on Kinyasano Hill in Rukungiri Municipality. 

The Archbishop is set to arrive tomorrow at Kahengye in Kebisoni Town Council, near the border of Rukungiri and Ntungamo districts.

The main service will be held at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano grounds, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Bishop Asiimwe, consecrated on the 12th of March 2023, was elected to replace the late Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi, who died of COVID-19 in 2021. 

Following Magezi’s death, retired Bishop Patrick Tugume served as caretaker of the diocese until Bishop Asiimwe’s election.

Archbishop Kaziimba, who took office on the 15th of March 2020, is expected to retire on the 18th of August 2027.

Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of Uganda will attend as the guest of honor.
