President Yoweri Museveni has firmly rejected opposition claims that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) “has done nothing” for Uganda.
Speaking to grassroots leaders and party flag bearers from the Lango Sub-region, Museveni gave a broad address outlining government achievements in health, clean water, poverty reduction, youth support, industrial growth, and access to regional markets.
On health, he cites the past threat of Guinea worm disease, saying it “disappeared because of safe water,” thanks to widespread borehole installation.
A major part of his message focused on the NRM’s household wealth-creation campaign.
For families with four acres or fewer, Museveni repeated his “pur kede cura” model, pointing to a young farmer in Kamuli who followed NRM guidance and now runs a poultry project with 110,000 birds, selling 2,000 trays of eggs daily—earning 20 million shillings per day, 600 million monthly, and 7.2 billion yearly.
On youth unemployment, Museveni insists that the government has consistently supported young people through programmes like the Parish Development Model (with 30 percent for youth), plus targeted initiatives for ghetto youth and boda boda riders.
He emphasizes that most jobs come from private enterprise, households, and companies—not government offices.
Opposition leaders have recently criticized the government for neglecting service delivery.
National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, accused the NRM of investing in security forces that brutalise opposition supporters instead of improving services.
Similarly, UPC’s Jimmy James Michael Akena-Obote attacked Museveni directly, calling him “a liar” who does not care about public services.
