National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC) has declared water stability to it’s customers as priority number one instead of concentrating on money collection.
This has been revealed by Ivan Tekakwo, the Spokesperson for National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Northern Uganda.
During an exhibition for University students organized by the National Council for Higher Education, the students of the University of Kisubi showcased a smart prepaid water management system which they recommended to NWSC for better performance.
Hillary Tumwesigye, a student at the University of Kisubi says the system is quite easy to use and very reliable because you just pay, generate a token and you are given the units you paid for.
The system also disconnects water supply once the token is used up.
Tumwesigye says they invented the system in 2025 and they have so far reached 80% of completion with this system which they are also marketing to hotel owners and landlords.
Tekakwo however says the prepaid meter costs one million shillings which is very expensive for NWSC customers but they are graduating to that system gradually.
He says the system will be very helpful to NWSC because it will assist them in collecting bills from customers which has always been a problem.
