Pastor, Followers in trouble for keeping decomposing body for days while praying for it to resurrect.

Pastor Margaret Nelima and her followers are in trouble for keeping a decomposing body inside a house while praying for it to resurrect.

The deceased, Asse Ssegawa, 40,  a resident of Butinindi village in Ntenjeru–Kisoga Town Council, Mukono Districth dad died days earlier.

However, the relatives—guided by pastor Margret Nelima, commonly known as Nabbi—continued praying over his body, insisting he would rise again.

Ssegawa reportedly fell ill three weeks ago while staying at his ancestral home.

Instead of seeking medical treatment, the family relied entirely on prayer, following the pastor’s instructions that divine healing alone would restore him.

Preliminary police findings show that Pastor Nelima, together with Ssegawa’s mother and sisters, discouraged any attempts to take him to a health facility.

As his condition worsened, no effort was made to seek professional help.

The matter only came to light when residents noticed a strong smell coming from the homestead.

When they checked on the family, they found Ssegawa’s lifeless body already in an advanced state of decomposition.

Village Chairperson Richard Ssewanyana says the family refused to stop their prayer sessions even after Ssegawa had died.

Police later arrived at the scene and registered a case of rash and neglect at Kisoga Police Station, according to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson.

Police picked up Eseza Nakalazi, 65, the deceased’s mother; Suzan Nakonde, his sister who is also referred to as “Pastor”; and Pastor Margret Nelima alias Nabbi.

The suspects are in custody as investigations continue.

Owoyesigyire condemned the actions of the family and the pastor, warning against extreme spiritual practices that put lives at risk.
