The Directorate of Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with Nateete Police Station, have arrested more suspects linked to the robbery and dismantling of trailers in Kampala.
Although security operatives had earlier arrested 11 suspects, nine were later released after investigations established that they were just employees working at garages where the stolen trailers had been dismantled.
The racketeers had so far robbed ten trailers in a period of one year.
However, the key suspects, Alex Mukalazi and Ronald Kato, have since implicated four more as accomplices, including a Mengo-based car and spare parts dealer, Peter Ssendegeya.
Two of the other three key suspects arrested over the weekend are Charles Ssebaduka, who owns a garage in Wandegeya, and Shafic Mawanda, who runs a garage in Kibuye.
The Directorate of Crime Intelligence team, led by ASP Macklyn Kemigisha, Nateete CID boss Nancy Apio, and Nateete Division Police Commander SP Robert Kacumu, began arresting the suspects toward the end of last week.
The operation started with the arrest of Alex Mukalazi, whose employer had reported him to the police and placed him under surveillance after claiming that robbers had stolen three of his vehicles, including two trailers.
