Police Probe Bus Accident That Killed Three in Arua

Police in Arua District are investigating the circumstances under which three people were killed after being knocked down by a bus last night.

The fatal accident occurred at Odianyadri Trading Centre and involved a Link Bus, registration number UBJ 736Z, which was travelling from Hoima to Arua City.

Eyewitnesses say that at around 8:00 p.m., as the bus approached the trading centre, it attempted to overtake a Noah vehicle and, in the process, crashed into a motorcycle carrying three men.

All three victims died instantly. Police have identified the deceased as 35 year old Anguyo,  the rider of the motorcycle; 50 year old Santino Onzima, and 55 year old Raphael Madima, the Local Council Chairperson of Cirifi Village in Vurra Sub-county.

The victims were members of the same family. The bus was impounded and parked at Arua Central Police Station, while the driver, whose identity has not yet been established, fled the scene.

Police say investigations are ongoing under case file reference TAR 12/2026.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, confirms the incident to Favour fm and cautions road users to exercise extra care, especially as traffic has increased with the reopening of schools.

She attributes the crash to careless driving by the bus driver, who remains at large.

The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination and further management.

The incident comes barely two days after another road accident involving a Kampala–Arua YY Coach, which veered off the road in Luwero District while attempting to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, leaving five passengers injured.
