Police Recover Missing Rifle in Iganga, Arrest Two Suspects

Police in Busoga East have arrested two suspects in connection with a missing firearm that was later recovered in Iganga District.

The suspects, identified as Sowali Kisambira and Ayub Ngobi, are currently detained at Mayuge Central Police Station.

According to reports, Amiri Mugweri, a resident of Bukalambwa Village in Nakalama Sub-county, Iganga District, visited his abandoned house on Easter Sunday.

Upon entering, he noticed a strange man resting in the living room, an unusual sight given that the house had been locked for about a month.

Mugweri confronted the man and demanded an explanation for his presence, but the suspect fled the scene.

Shortly after, Mugweri discovered an abandoned firearm, mobile phones, and other items in the house, prompting him to alert the police.

Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East Police spokesperson says that detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene.

They recovered an SAR rifle, registration number UG PSO 3200050-05956, along with two rounds of live ammunition, two smartphones, and clothing.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm belonged to Safety Services Uganda Limited, a private security company operating in Iganga District. However, the company’s management initially denied any knowledge of the missing weapon, leading to the arrest of its manager, Ayub Ngobi.
