RCC calls for proper registration of cattle compensation beneficiaries

Kamba Amir, the deputy Gulu Resident City Commissioner (RCC) in charge Bardege-Layibi Division has called on Local Council one officials to properly register households for the upcoming cattle compensation.

This follows reports that some households were being sidelined in the registration process.

Amir says households being sidelined in the registration include married men who share a compound with their fathers, divorced and widowed women and households in rented properties.

He also allays fears over a section on the registration form where potential beneficiaries are acknowledging to have received the funds yet the process has not yet started.

Last year, government allocated 76 billion shillings for the cattle restocking program in Acholi, Lango and Teso sub regions which have been impoverished by prolonged conflict.

The cattle restocking program is expected to be done in a phased manner to be completed in five financial years.

Each household is set to receive five million shillings to enable them acquire five cattle.
