Some Gulu Households to Miss Farming Tool Support

Several households in Unyama Sub County, Gulu district are likely to miss out on the hand hoes set to be distributed to farmers ahead of the first planting season.

Gulu district received 14,000 hand hoes from the Ministry of Agriculture, animal industries and Fisheries, MAAIF to be shared among the 11 sub counties.

Justine Kidega, the L.CIII chairperson Unyama sub county says that they were allocated 2,024 hand hoes.

Kidega says that the hand hoes which were allocated based on the 2024 Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) census data will not be enough as many households were not counted during the census.

The chairperson says each household will receive only one hand hoe even when they have many members able to use hoes.

UBOS acting Deputy Executive Director Vincent Ssenono explains that an error occurred during the compilation of the final census report, leading to incorrect data being presented, especially concerning the tribal population.
