Uganda Christian University Wins Top Public Category Award at 16th Higher Education Exhibition

Uganda Christian University (UCU) has been awarded the winner under the public category of the 16th Annual higher Education exhibition which concluded on Saturday at Gulu University.

The University’ engineering faculty showcased an early warning system for bridge failure.

The innovators note that the early warning system innovation monitors the daily use of the bride and warns in case of an upcoming failure such as damages resulting from an earthquake.

They explain that bridges have sometimes collapsed without warning and before their estimated lifespan due to a lack of monitoring but the early warning system makes a siren in case of cracks and damages.

The University also innovated a traffic lights control system aimed at reducing accidents on Ugandan roads.

Livingstone International University won the first place under Other Degree Awarding Institutions while Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology took first place in other tertiary institutions category.

The top winners including first and second runners up were awarded with certificates.

Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, the MP for Bardege-Layibi Division calls for collaboration between higher institutions and industry leaders for the commercialisation of the innovations.
