UPC Urges Calm in Lango as Missing Comedian Resurfaces Safely

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) leadership in Lango is urging a peaceful election after a popular comedian and member of Betty Amongi Akena’s (BBA) online television team, who went missing on Sunday, returned home safely.

Solomon Odyek, also known as Macroni Ajoka-a-Lango, returned yesterday morning, appearing physically healthy and well-groomed.

Three days after his disappearance, he went directly to the home of his principal, Minister Betty Amongi, after finding new padlocks on the door of his rented house.

Odyek says he was abducted by unknown individuals on Sunday along Lumumba Road, Lira-Soroti highway, while returning home after buying a roadside snack for supper.

Simon Okaka, UPC chairperson in Lira City and team lead for Minister Betty Amongi’s campaign, expresses relief that Odyek returned safely following a consultation meeting with security personnel.

He also announces the cancellation of a previously planned demonstration.

Minister Betty Amongi says she believes her political opponent, Minister Jane Aceng Ocero, is behind the alleged kidnapping.

She further discloses that other members of her media team were reportedly targeted for abduction.

As of filing this report, he had not yet formally reported to the police.

Authorities in Lira have launched an investigation into the incident.
