Education stakeholders in Unyama sub county, Gulu district say about 100 pupils have dropped out of school from the sub county.
Oryema Patrick Apire, the secretary for education in Unyama Sub County says that during his routine monitoring of schools, he discovered that at least 100 pupils have dropped out of school from the four government aided schools in Unyama Sub County.
He says majority of the drop outs are boys.
Oryema adds that reasons for drop out include; parents lacking money for fees, learners giving up because they can no longer manage to study and peer pressure which leads pupils to abandon school because their fellow pupils have also abandoned school.
Oryema urges parents to own the responsibility of paying school fees and providing for children.
He also cautions learners who abandon studies without reason to avoid joking with education because their future depends on it.
