Balingtone P’Ongwec, the secretary for production, works and technical services in Gulu district says the district has so far received 4,238 banana suckers and 20,000 shed tree seedlings from operation wealth creation to be planted alongside 180,000 coffee seedlings.
Balingtone says the 4,238 banana suckers have been given to 26 farmers and 20,000 shed trees seedlings given to 150 farmers to plant alongside the coffee seedlings.
He adds that the number of farmers who have benefited is equal to the supply and therefore those who missed out should wait for second phase.
Balingtone cautions farmers to avoid leaving the coffee seedlings to dry under trees without planting because they will monitor the progress to the dot.
He also cautions farmers against believing in lies being spread on social media that the coffee seedlings brought to Northern Uganda are useless.
He says they are quality seedlings which will lead Northern Uganda into the money economy.
