Police where called in yesterday to quell an incident of voter interference at Holy Rosary primary school polling station at around 2:30pm during elections for City Division Mayors and City Councilors in Laroo-Pece Division.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson says allegations indicate that a group of chaotic people led by Geoffrey Otim, the incumbent Division Mayor for Laroo-Pece on Democratic Party (DP) ticket attempted to disrupt the voting process.
Geoffrey Otim accused one Otim Robert for allegedly mobilising votes for Aber Gifter, the NRM candidate.
Mudong says that upon receiving the information, police officers at Gulu Central Police Station responded swiftly and found when Otim Robert had already been held in an escort pick-up double cabin van belonging to Norbert Mao, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
Otim Robert was then picked by police from the escorts and taken to Gulu Central Police Station for further management.
Meanwhile, the others who were on the escort double cabin pick-up were instructed by police to leave the polling station immediately which they did.
Mudong adds that similarly, police officers also arrested a yet to be identified man who was disorganising the polling station but the same crew who were on the double Cabin escort pick-up returned and hijacked the suspect from Police claiming that he belongs to the team of the incumbent Mayor.
Mudong says these chaotic behaviors at the polling station prompted people to attack a land cruiser decorated with the photos of Norbert Mao which arrived at the scene prompting the Driver to abandon the vehicle.
The vehicle was later rescued and driven by police to Gulu CPS for safe custody.
Police says they are closely following up this matter and those found culpable will be charged accordingly within the provisions of the available electoral laws.
