Several livestock traders from the Acholi sub-region are crying foul following the interception of their animals at the Albert Nile Bridge, also known as Pakwach Bridge last night.
Security personnel impounded three Fuso trucks transporting cattle, goats, and chickens at around 8:00 p.m.
The traders say the animals were being taken to Arua City for sale.
Since the interception, the traders claim that more than 20 chickens, 11 goats, and one cow have died while under custody.
They fear additional losses if the matter is not resolved quickly.
Moses Uyugi from Agago North Constituency and Simon Rubanga Kende Okeng from Pader District say they possess all the necessary documents authorising them to trade in livestock.
They have rejected allegations by security officials linking them to Balaalo groups allegedly transporting animals back to the region for restocking.
The Pakwach Resident District Commissioner, Stephen Nsubuga, says security agencies are verifying the traders’ documents. He explains that once the verification process is completed and adequate manpower is available, the animals will be escorted under security to the slaughter facility in Arua.
