HIV/Aids focal persons from Acholi sub region have complained over the lack of funds for carrying out their activities.
The focal persons say the 0.1% budgetary allocation from central government to districts for HIV/Aids activities does not reach their offices which has made it impossible to reach communities.
The focal persons were speaking yesterday during a meeting organized by Uganda Aids Commission at Bomah hotel with district health educators, communication officers, HIV focal persons and the media who are key actors in HIV communication.
This comes as Acholi sub region is battling with high HIV prevalence rates of 5. 9% which is beyond the national average of 4.9 %.
Dr. Peter Wakooba, the Monitoring and Evaluation officer at Uganda Aids Commission in response urged the Chief Administrative Officers of the respective districts to make the funds available to the focal persons so that they can implement their activities.
Meanwhile, Wakooba has challenged HIV focal persons to find new ways of creating awareness about HIV following reports of complacence especially among young people.
This follows growing concern that youth are more scared of pregnancy than getting infected with a HIV, a chronic infection.
