Three months old baby suffers complications over negligence at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital

Walter Uriekwun, Gulu regional referral hospital Principal administrator has cautioned midwives against maltreating pregnant mothers saying they risk reaping curses for themselves and their children.

Uriekwun was speaking during the hospital’s first ever baraza held yesterday.

Palmer Alum, a resident of Wilacic village in Bobi Sub County, Omoro district says a midwife refused to help her deliver her baby leading to the baby falling in a basin and suffering injuries to the neck.

The midwife argued that her shift had ended and was waiting for a colleague to take over.

Alum says her daughter; Blessing Lakica who is three months and three weeks old has never cried since birth, can’t turn her head and spends most of her time sleeping.

She narrated to the gathering how she is now struggling to take care of her fourth child Lakisa adding that she makes weekly trips to the hospital for treatment with hope that the baby will recover.

Betty Aol Ocan, the Gulu City Woman Member of Parliament urges midwives to be kind despite being overworked.

While Ambrose Onoria, Gulu Resident City Commissioner Resident advises midwives to avoid operating like traffic officers who are often rude.

Dr. Jimmy Opigo from the Ministry of Health urges the community to use available platforms including social media to report such staff.
