Rising concerns over domestic violence and alcohol abuse have emerged in Omoro Town Council after a 20-year-old man allegedly killed his father following a family dispute.
Police are now hunting for the suspect, identified as Obua Ivan, who went into hiding after the incident that left his 47-year-old father, Ocena Santos, dead.
According to a police report provided by Ongom David Mudong, the incident occurred on Friday last week in Nyekorach Cell, Omoro Town Council.
Police say the deceased had earlier picked a serious quarrel with his wife during the day before the two later went to Kura Corner, where the wife operates a small bar.
The couple reportedly returned home at around 9:00 pm and resumed the quarrel.
It is alleged that their son, Obua Ivan, attempted to intervene but in the process punched his father in the neck, rendering him unconscious.
The victim was later pronounced dead at a health facility.
Okelakwo Walter Lukwiya, the LC III Chairperson of Omoro Town Council says the family had a history of disagreements, including disputes over the use of oxen for farming.
Lukwiya condemns the incident, attributing it partly to alcohol abuse, noting that the deceased had reportedly been drinking heavily earlier in the day.
Police say efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspect.
