Murder Case of Former UCU Student Leader Adjourned to Next Month

The trial of the murder case involving Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, a former student affairs leader at Uganda Christian University (UCU), has been adjourned to the 6th of next month as investigations into her killing continue.

Dak Hussien Taewaiko, the suspect, a casual worker commonly referred to as a shamba boy, yesterday reappeared before the Mukono Magistrate’s Court for further mention of charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

Proceedings resumed at around 11:30 a.m. before Grade One Magistrate Gerald Emwogu.

The accused was not allowed to take plea, as the offences are capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court.

State Attorney Josephine Nanyonga told court that investigations are still ongoing and requested more time to complete inquiries.

The magistrate granted the request, adjourned the case, and ordered that the accused be remanded to Luzira Prison until the next hearing date.

Tumwebaze’s killing, which shocked the university community and residents of Mukono, occurred on the 12th of last month under disturbing circumstances. Court records indicate that the assailant allegedly broke into her room and strangled her.
