Gulu Authorities Pause Controversial Trade Order Rollout

Gulu city has halted the implementation of the trade order, a countrywide exercise aimed at reorganizing business operations.

Peter Banya, the Gulu Resident City Commissioner (RCC) in charge Laroo-Pece division says the implementation which was halted last week, is likely to resume next week when they receive logistics.

Banya says they halted the exercise due to other pressing activities such as the cattle restocking program and distribution of hand hoes.

The trade order which started in March has seen traders evicted from roadside kiosks, containers and road reserves.

Banya says areas such as Moroto Road, Lacor, Cenjere and Layibi will be cleaned up when they resume.

He urges some of the affected traders to occupy Cereleno market which has been expanded to accommodate more traders.
