The hotel owners who offer accomodation services in Anaka Town Council, Nwoya district have cried out to the authorities of Anaka Town Council to save them from a lot of noise pollution which inconveniences their customers.
Scovia Laker, one of the hotel owners who offers accommodation in Anaka says the hotels and bars are all lined up on main Streets and sometimes it feels like the bars are competing.
She says the dance volumes are so high hence shaking the walls and roofs which mainly affects the customers who are resting in hotels as well as rentals closer to them.
Laker says this problem has lasted for long and sometimes she thinks the bar owners do it intentionally because they think nothing can happen to them.
John Paul Onyee, the Town Clerk for Nwoya Town Council says they are going to plan and start an operation aimed at sorting out the issue of noise but for now they still have a lot they are dealing with.
Onyee advises business owners to practice what their neighbors are comfortable with.
In Uganda, noise pollution is a criminal offence regulated primarily by the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations of 2003 and the National Environment Act, No. 5 of 2019.
Penalties for exceeding permissible noise levels can include hefty fines, imprisonment, or both, alongside the confiscation of equipment.
