Police Maintain Heavy Deployment at Alemere SS After Violent Student Strike

Police have maintained deployment at Alemere Secondary School in Amolatar District following a violent student strike that erupted on Tuesday night.

The unrest broke out at around 11 p.m., when more than 500 students fled the school after a group staged a coordinated strike, vandalizing property and disrupting learning

The Head teacher’s office and residence were among the main targets, with windows smashed and property damaged.

The Police from Alemere and Agwingiri outposts were deployed to manage the situation.

Police personnel remain deployed at the school to prevent further unrest and damage to property.

John Mafabi, the Amolatar District Police Commander, is calling on students to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations proceed.

Joseph Eulet, the school head teacher, explains that the unrest was triggered by an operation aimed at enforcing discipline.

He says that they confiscated mobile phones and non-uniform clothing from students.

The move, however, sparked anger among sections of the student body, culminating in a coordinated attack on school property.

Eulet, however, notes that by the time the Police reached the school, most of the students had scattered, while others remained in the dormitory. By Wednesday afternoon, 5 students were isolated to help identify the alleged ringleaders behind the strike.
