
Police in Aswa West have identified the Victims of the Tuesday night drowning that happened at Awach sub-county.
54 year old Lucy Labol a peasant farmer died in the fast flowing water, meanwhile other women who were travelling together with her but survived includes; 55 year old Florence Acaa, 40 year old Pamela Amono, 45 year old Beatrice Ajok , Evaline Laker and Denis Ojok.
They were all peasant farmers and residents of Paranga Village, Pugwinyi Parish, Awach sub county in Gulu district.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Public relations Officer in press Statement said this incident happened on Tuesday at around 7:40 pm.
Mudong says, police in Gulu District received a distress call about death by drowning at Agagi stream boardering Awach and Patiko subcounties particularly at Paranga village, Pugwinyi Parish in Awach subcounty, Gulu District.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased, Labol Lucy, and the Survivors were coming back from Patalira market, in Patiko subcounty heaading to their homes but while crossing a flooded fast flowing Agagi river due to heavy rains, they all fell in the water as they attempted to support each other unfortunately for Labol got drowned and died.
Further information also says that Denis Ojok struggled and managed to rescue some survivors before making an alarm for help.
Since it was night time already, the body of the deceased was retrieved the following morning of 29/04/2026 resting lifeless at the river bank.
Mudong said Police team of detectives and other uniformed personnel headed by the Scene of Crimes Officers visited the scene, documented it, statements recorded from survivors as first responders.
One of the survivers, Evaline Laker is said to be still in critical condition and Referred to Gulu regional referral hospital for further management.
