
Police in Lira City have arrested six suspects in connection with the brutal gang rape of a young businesswoman, who was attacked twice in a single night by different groups of men.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson says 20-year-old Akech Elizabeth, was gang-raped by at least nine men in two separate attacks early on the morning of 2nd May 2026.
Okema says the victim was with a friend and three other colleagues at Grand Paradise Hotel in Amuca.
They were walking one of their friends home when, at around 1:00am in Owiti Cell, a group of over ten unidentified men attacked them.
Okema reports that the assailants seized the victim, dragged her into a nearby bush, and seven of them allegedly raped her.
While she was walking home after being released, she was again sexually assaulted by two unidentified men in Olago Cell at around 2:00am.
Her companions had escaped earlier and reported the incident to police.
Mudong says that following an intelligence-led operation, police arrested six suspects: 20 year old Ogwang Stanley, 17 year old Okot Janan, 20 year old Odok Joshua, 21 year old Ocaya Emmanuel, 20 year old Mule Emmy and 17 year old Ayo Brian who are all in police custody pending interrogation.
