Amuru District is set to benefit from a major infrastructure development project as the Ministry of Works and Transport in partnership with STADIA and Segamu Consults, undertakes the design of a key road linking the district to the West Nile region.
Mildred Auma, the Amuru District Communication Officer says the proposed road project will cover approximately 100 kilometres, stretching from Awer Junction to Te-Okutu Landing Site in Lakang Sub-county.
Once completed, the road is expected to significantly improve connectivity, enhance trade, and open up economic opportunities between Amuru District and the wider West Nile region.
The design phase, which commenced last week, is expected to run for 12 months.
According to Noah Higenyi, a Social Development Specialist the process will involve extensive community engagement to ensure inclusivity and transparency.
He notes that the consultants will conduct inception meetings at district level, followed by sub-county, parish, and village-level engagements in order to sensitize communities about the project and gather feedback.
Additional activities will include technical surveys, demarcation of road reserves using mark stones and ribbons, and the establishment of mechanisms to receive and address grievances from stakeholders.
Efforts are also underway to secure office space at the district headquarters to provide a central point for handling project-related concerns.
