Women on spot for believing in myths about family planning

The women have been advised against believing in the myths they hear about family planning from fellow community members leaving out the truth from the professional health care givers.

Grace Lanyero, the in charge of the Gynecology department at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital reports that the women believe in stories they hear from their friends about family planning and they ignore what the health professionals tell them.

Lanyero says that this belief has led to some women fearing to use the services because they feel what they were told is right, this has also led to very many unwanted pregnancies because people are scared using family planning.

Lanyero adds that some of the myths in the community about family planning is that the medicine inserted on their arms disappears and it can kill, family planning makes one barren among others which she says is not true.

Lanyero says that family planning is a choice though it may have some effects, they are still effective for birth control.

Lanyero says that those who get problems mostly go to get services from unqualified professionals that is why they end up getting issues.

Lanyero advises the women to always consult professional people so as to get the truth and when they seek services they should do so at professional places with qualified professionals.
