Gulu Schools Urged to Strengthen Ebola Prevention Measures as Term Begins

As the term starts in a period where the country is undergoing Ebola threats, schools in Gulu City have been advised to have the infection prevention and control [IPC} tools like temperature guns, hand washing points and sanitizers among others available for use.

Proscovia Aber, the Gulu City inspector of schools, says that the schools have opened at a time when the country is going through Ebola threats but the guidelines to follow have been given to the different schools by the ministry of health.

Aber says that it is important that the schools strictly follow these guidelines by having temperature guns, water points and sanitizers so that the school is safe for the children,

Aber asks schools that don’t have these tools to purchase them immediately because they will help in protecting the learners.

According to Aber, they will be moving around to check in the different schools and if found not having the tools and observing standard operations procedures, they will be answerable.

Charles Otto, the headteacher of Kweyo primary school located in Bardege Layibi division in Gulu City told Favor Fm that his school has temperature guns that are no longer functioning and a few water points but by next week they will sit for a meeting and buy all the tools needed for the safety of the learners.

Meanwhile, the deputy Resident City Commissioner for Bardege Layibi, Kamba Amir warns that Ebola is a major security threat, the schools, hospitals and all public places should observe the standard operating procedures.
