The Ministry of health says no Health Centre IVwill be built in Gulu City following a request from Daniel Okello, the Health Officer Officer for Gulu City.
Health Center IVs (HC IV) are standard and essential public health facilities in Uganda, designed to serve an estimated catchment of 100,000 people.
They provide comprehensive services, including outpatient and inpatient care, maternity, emergency surgery, and blood transfusions.
Dr Upenytho George Dugumon, commissioner health services in charge of community health at the Ministry of health says Gulu City is endowed with all institutions that get money from government to do primary health care, an example is St Mary’s hospital Lacor.
Dr Upenytho says Gulu city should not worry about not having a Health Centre IV because the likes of Lacor hospital already exist and operate as Health Centre IVand creating another Health Centre IV would render them redundant.
He says they have had experiences where there are so many health center IVs which render health workers redundant yet they want to be paid at the end of the month.
Upenytho predicts that the same will happen if a Health Centre IV is constructed in Gulu City which already has enough hospitals and a number of specialists.
