Gulu University promotes nine associate professors

Gulu University has promoted nine of its senior lecturers to Associate Professors in a move aimed at strengthening the learning institution’s academic staffing.

They include Dr. James Okello from the faculty of Medicine, Dr. Olanya David D’Ross from the Faculty of Business and Development Studies, Dr. Kalule Wamala Stephen from the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Dr. Julaina A Obika from the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies and Dr. Olido Kenneth from the Faculty of business and development studies.

Others are Dr Ofoyuru Denis from the Faculty of Education and Humanities, Dr Opiro Robert from the faculty of Science, Dr Okello Collins from the faculty of Agriculture and Environment and Dr. Sidonia Angom, the taskforce chair at the Moroto Constituency College This now brings the total number of associate professors at Gulu University to 23, according to James Onono Ojok, the Public Relations Officer.

Onono who was addressing journalists today at Northern Uganda Media Club (NUMEC) says the university currently has 10 full professors.

He says four lecturers including Dr. Nono Denis of the faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Dr Atube Francis of the faculty of education and humanities, Dr Abola Bernard from the faculty of science and Dr George Opio from the faculty of Education and humanities were promoted to senior lecturers.

Onono says the new associate professors went through a rigorous process which involved writing peer review articles, supervising masters and PHD students and other academic projects.

The university has a total of 273 academic staff.
