Concern Grows Over Land Hired Out to Investors in Nwoya

Leaders in Nwoya district are concerned over the large scale hiring out of land to private investors by locals.

Reports show that some families hire out all their land leaving nothing for the family to grow food for home consumption.

Patrick Okello Oryema, the Nwoya L.C V Chairperson says, there is a need for family heads to keep some of the land for their own use instead of renting it all out.

Oryema was speaking during a handover of three tractors to Northern Uganda Tractor Owners, Operators, mechanics, and Farmers Association (NUTOFA) SACCO by the Microfinance Support Center last week,

He acknowledges that some families are unable to utilize all the large chunks of land they own and advises that they can rent out a part of it and keep some for family use.

Christopher Omara, the Nwoya Resident District Commissioner notes that theft of food items in gardens by youth and children is common mainly due to lack of food at home.

He challenges family heads to champion household food production to reduce such crimes.
