Equal Opportunities Commission Urges Nwoya Leaders to Embrace Inclusion

Officials from Equal Opportunities Commission have urged leaders in Nwoya district to avoid discrimination and embrace inclusion.

The call was made by John Peter Ssesaga, the Senior Education and Training Officer at Equal Opportunities Commission during a leader’s engagement meeting from Nwoya district offices recently.

Ssesaga notes that a number of vulnerable people in the community like persons with disabilities, the elderly, and youths face discrimination and exclusion which is is unacceptable.

He also appeals to the local leaders to embrace affirmative action as way of uplifting vulnerable members like women and girls, PWDs among others.

Ssesaga adds that there is a very big linkage between Equal Opportunities and national development adding that everyone has a role to play in bringing development to the communities.

Michael Opwonya, the assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Nwoya urges the officials from Equal Opportunities Commission to step up their role such that the community gets to know their rights.

Ayugi Margaret Odong, the Councilor for Older Persons in Nwoya district says many older persons in the district and Acholi sub-region face a number of challenges including neglect and poverty among others.

She urges government to step up their efforts of caring for older persons and other vulnerable groups such that they can improve on their standards of living.

The Equal Opportunity Commission which is a government entity were last week in Gulu and Nwoya district to meet local Leaders in the district.
