

Religious Leaders in Northern Uganda have been urged to embrace the message of HIV Prevention and treatment messages.
The call was made yesterday by Victor Rwengabo, the Zonal Coordinator for Uganda Aids Commission for Mid-Northern Uganda during a sensitization meeting with leaders of National Fellowship of born-again Pentecostal Churches from Soul Gospel Church in Kabedopong, in Gulu City
Rwengabo notes that the Religious leaders preach to a large number of congregation weekly and it’s important that they incorporate the message of HIV prevention and treatment in their sermons and other activities such that the message can reach every part of the community they lead.
Bishop Joseph Omara, the Overseer of National Fellowship of born again Pentecostal Churches in Lango sub-region notes that the sensitization training on HIV Prevention and treatment is very important for everyone.
He adds that they will extend the message on HIV Prevention to their Churches in various parts of Northern Uganda.
Bishop Omara also appeals to all Church leaders to ensure that every intending couple who wants to get married should be tested for HIV and also screened for sickle cell.
Reverend Margaret Aciro, the general Secretary under the National Fellowship of born again Pentecostal Churches in Northern Uganda urges all residents to go and test for HIV adding that they should start treatment immediately if their results turn positive.
According to records from Uganda Aids Commission HIV prevalence in Northern Uganda remains significantly higher than the national average.
Local rates range from 8.4% to over 14% across the Acholi sub-region compared to a national average hovering around 5.2% to 6.5%.
