Police Hunt Moyo Health Official Over Alleged Theft of Government Medical Supplies

Police in Moyo District have launched a manhunt for the officer in charge of Lefori Health Centre III, Moses Ogwal, over allegations of illegally possessing and diverting government medical supplies to a private health facility he is alleged to own.

Ogwal reportedly went into hiding after police, working jointly with officials from the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), raided Country Medi Care, a private clinic, on Monday, June 29.

During the operation, authorities recovered several medical items marked “Government of Uganda” and “Not for Sale.”

According to police, the raid was prompted by intelligence reports alleging that government medicines and medical supplies were being diverted and sold through the private clinic.

Among the items recovered were a PPD register, a laboratory register, 15 cannulas, two boxes of laboratory slides, three vials of lignocaine, and other medical supplies believed to belong to the government.

Collins Asea, the North West Nile Regional Police spokesperson, says two suspects, identified only as Oloya and Okello, were arrested to assist with investigations, while Ogwal remains at large.

Meanwhile, the Moyo Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Julian Ssekamwa, has urged the public to report any health workers suspected of misusing government medicines or other public health supplies.
