The LC III Chairperson for Unyama Sub County says the boys’ latrine at Coopil primary school, Unyama Sub County in Gulu district is on the verge of collapsing.
Justine Kidega says the one block of a five stance latrine meant for boys might collapse anytime because the building is old and already filled up.
Kidega adds that it unsafe for learners to use such a facility because it puts their lives at risk.
He urges the education stakeholders to take the matter seriously such that the boys at Coopil can learn comfortably and safely.
Meanwhile Oryema Patrick Apire, the secretary of education for Unyama Sub County says the boys’ latrine at Coopil has lasted long enough, has broken doors and lacks privacy.
Apire says the community has taken advantage of the broken doors to use the school latrine hence filling it up very fast.
He also says that the five stance which was constructed long ago when the school had few pupils is now inadequate for the current population of boys at the school.
Apire adds that one stance of the pit latrine is supposed to be used by only 40 boys.
He urges the education department, well-wishers, partners and parents to unite and help construct the boys’ latrine at the school.
Coopil primary school has two blocks of five stance pit latrines of which one is for boys and the other for girls.
