2 pairs of Spiro electric motorcycles bearing identical registration numbers, UMA 089GJ and UMA 175FK have been intercepted and the occupants arrested in an intelligence led operation aimed at combating crime in North Kyoga.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Police Spokesperson for North Kyoga says that they have realized forgery of Spiro motorcycles registration numbers and illegal battery swapping.
According to him, the duplicated registration numbers are part of an emerging scheme employed by certain motorcycle operators to evade law enforcement surveillance.
Okema notes that further intelligence has established that some operators have set up unauthorized battery charging and swapping centers outside the officially gazetted Spiro infrastructure which are suspected of enabling motorcycles to operate outside the approved battery subscription system while concealing their identities through the use of forged or duplicated registration numbers.
Okema says that investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected forgery of registration numbers, identify all individuals involved, and determine the full extent of the criminal network behind these activities while appropriate legal action will be taken against all those found culpable in accordance with the laws of Uganda.
