Wilfred Okot, a Gulu based freelance journalist is the new chairperson Agwee cell, Agwee Ward in Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City.
Okot who contested under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party beat two other contenders to the position after garnering 181 votes in the polls.
Jacob Opio, an independent candidate emerged second with four votes while Otika Sanon Akena, the former L.CIII Chairperson Awach Sub County trailed with one vote.
Okot, a freelance journalist with the Albertine Journal and the Ankole Times says he is prioritizing addressing challenges such as insecurity, garbage, poor drainage and youth unemployment.
He says he will create verified register for residents of Agwee Cell and a 24-hour LC emergency contact and also work with Gulu Central Police to restart weekly night patrols with local vigilantes.
Okot also intends to set up a free LC Dispute Desk to solve cases before they reach police.
