25-year-old Alany Gerald has been murdered by a mob from Obutuwelo A cell, Ojwina ward in Lira city west division Lira city in the night of 24th August 2026 during unknown hours.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the police Spokesperson for North Kyoga Region says on the fateful night, the deceased and others went to the home of a yet to be identified person located in Obutuwelo A cell Ojwina ward in Lira city west division in Lira city and broke into a house whose occupants were sleeping inside.
Okema says the group stole household items which they transported away and as if that wasn’t enough the deceased and colleagues returned to the same place for more items.
Alany was however arrested by the owner of the said house while his colleagues escaped.
Okema says Alany was beaten by members of the family whose items he stole.
The community also joined in the beating which led to Alany’s death and his body was later dumped in the middle of the road.
On notification, the police picked his body and conveyed it to Lira Regional Referral hospital for a postmortem.
Okema urges the community to avoid taking the law into their hands but rather to arrest suspects and hand them over to police for investigations.
