Peter Banya, the deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Laroo pece division has cited Limu ward located in Laroo-Pece division, Gulu city as a hot spot for animal theft in the City.
Banya says on Tuesday night they arrested two boys who stole and skinned a goat from St Maurice then sold the meat sold in Limu ward.
Banya says most meats of animals stolen from other areas are sold in the areas of Limu.
He says criminals steal the animals, skin them then pack the meat like luggage.
Banya cautions the LC1 Chairpersons against focusing on only juicy deals like land sale but also interest themselves in protecting the people they lead and their property.
He warns the animal thieves that their days are numbered and once they are caught, the law will deal with them.
In Uganda, a person can get a maximum of seven years in prison for stealing domestic animals (cattle and livestock), while stealing wild or endangered animals can carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
