Role model men and mentor mothers in Gulu district have received 15 bicycles to help them in the fight against teenage pregnancy, an initiative supported by the Programme for Accessible Health, Communication and Education. (PACE)
PACE is working with Omoro and Gulu district in Acholi sub region.
In Gulu it is working in four sub counties of Omel, Bungatira, Patiko and Unyama with each sub county having four role model men and five mentor mothers to help curb teenage pregnancy among girls aged 19 and below.
Nassali Prossie, the sexual and representative health rights officer at PACE says the bicycles were provided to support the movement of the role model men and mentor mothers in the community to enable them reach out to the girls.
Kenneth Cana, the acting District Health Officer for Gulu district tasks the role model men and mentor mothers to improve on their work now that they have the bicycles.
Cana urges the beneficiaries against selling the bikes because it was given for a purpose.
Rosemary Oloya, a mentor mother says the practice of dancing at funerals should be banned because most girls get pregnant during funeral dances.
