Lira: Man Lynched Over Alleged Theft of 11 Plastic Chairs

A 26-year old man accused of being a habitual thief has been lynched in Lira district after he was reportedly found in possession of 11 stolen plastic chairs.

Edmond Okwir was arrested with the chairs at around 5:00am yesterday from Omara village, Bara Sub County.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson says preliminary findings show that Okwir was suspected of stealing the chairs from Onywao primary school.

Okema says Okwir was severely beaten and left with cuts and injuries on the head hence bleeding to death.

He says police visited the scene and conveyed the body to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Okema describes the incident as unfortunate and urges criminals to engage in productive activities with funds from government programs such as Youth livelihood program, Emyooga and PDM instead of crime.
