Alex Opira, the monitoring and evaluation officer at National Information Technology Authority – Uganda says the construction of Uganda service centers in Gulu City has reached 60%.
Opira said this last week while his team was sensitizing the Local Council one (LC1) Chairpersons about the services that will be accessed at the service Uganda centers.
Opira says the service center will have about 40 service counters where the public will be issued with ticket numbers to access several government services like passports, and public services among others by just providing your NIN number.
According to Opira, VIP service areas will be available meanwhile NITA Uganda will give the former Posta Uganda office a face lift, digitalization including persons with disability friendly services.
Posta Uganda will take responsibility of power, water and ensure the place is clean and well maintained while the Ministry of public service will ensure the place has been made available and operational.
The Ministry of works and ICT will ensure work is being done according to government needs.
Opira rallies the community and students who would like to use free internet to get ready to benefit from it by merely accessing the service center ground.
Initially during its launch, they had speculated that by the end of June this year the construction would be done and the facility functional but Opiro notes that the facility will be available for use by the end of this year.
