Gulu city plans for central pig slaughter house

The Veterinary Department at Gulu City Council has revealed plans to have a central place for the slaughter of pigs.

There is currently no designated slaughter place for pigs in Gulu city implying that pork sold in the city is slaughtered anywhere.

Dr Edward Omaido, the Gulu City Veterinary Officer says that the city has plans to turn the current abattoir into a slaughter house for pigs.

Omaido explains that they have plans to acquire land to construct a modern abattoir which will be used for the slaughter of livestock like cattle, goats and sheep.

In July, the city council started inspecting pork, something it was not doing for years.

Omaido says locals should be keen on buying only pork that has been inspected and stamped.
