Local council leaders at village, parish and sub county level in Unyama Sub county, Gulu district have been trained on governance.
Participants at the one-day training was held at Unyama Sub County headquarters included eight LC 1 chairpersons, two LC II chairpersons and 13 LC III chairpersons.
They were trained on monitoring government programmes, identification of community needs and resolving disputes among others.
Justine Kidega, the LC III Chairperson Unyama Sub County says it’s important for the local leaders to understand governance so that they know their roles, powers and limitations.
Kidega explains that in the previous term, some LC I chairpersons were often making decisions alone because they were no longer working together with their executives.
He emphasizes the importance of chairpersons working together with their executive members when making decisions saying they are a team.
