Faith and Unity Emphasized as Okol Community Welcomes New Clan Chief

The Okol community in Kitgum District has been urged to support their newly crowned clan chief, Counsel Jude Ogik, to receive God’s blessings.

The call was made by Bishop Joshua Lwere, the General Overseer of the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (NFBPC), during Ogik’s coronation ceremony at Lokol Central Village in Mucwini East Sub-county held on Saturday.

Bishop Lwere emphasizes the importance of supporting and honouring God-ordained leaders, stating that when a chief or kingdom opens its doors to God, He blesses them.

He drew parallels between an individual opening their heart to God and a chief opening their door to the Lord, saying that both invite God’s blessings.

The coronation of Counsel Ogik, a prominent lawyer, as the Okol clan chief has been surrounded by controversy, with some clan members opposing it, claiming he does not have the lineage of the Okol chiefdom and that there is already a clan chief, Joseph Nono Larem.

The faction opposed to Ogik’s coronation had petitioned Ker Kwaro, the Acholi Cultural institution, over the planned coronation, prompting Ker Kwaro Acholi, headed by Rwot David Onen Acana, the paramount chief, to write to Ogik to first settle the pending issues with the elders before the coronation.

The community also held a meeting where they rejected the planned coronation of Counsel Ogik as Okol chief.

They proceeded to file a case at Kitgum High Court seeking a temporary injunction to prevent the coronation of Ogik, but the case was dismissed with costs due to being filed late.

Rogers Olanya Olila, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Okol chiefdom, urges the community to rally behind their chief, putting aside differences and working together for the betterment of their chiefdom.
