Kitgum Court Denies Bail to Three Accused of Assaulting NRM Sub-County Chairperson

The Kitgum Grade One Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to Tony Omal, Oscar Komagum, and Walter Nyeko Okumu, three individuals accused of assaulting Fred Olak Kamao, the Omiya West Sub-county Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The trio, who are members of Margaret Lamwaka Odwar’s campaign team, were arrested and charged with causing grievous harm.

Prosecution alleges that on December 20, 2025, during a campaign rally at Pela Central Village, Omiya Anyima Sub-county, Kitgum district, the three and others still at large attacked Kamao, accusing him of spying.

Kamao, a supporter of Lillian Aber, the Kitgum District Woman MP and Lamwaka’s rival, sustained two fractures above his left knee.

The accused persons denied the charge.

Their lawyer, Walter Ladwar, requested bail for the trio, presenting two sureties each.

However, State Prosecutor Henry Kalinaki asked the court to review the documents, citing discrepancies in the sureties’ information.

Ponsiano Odwori Roman, the Kitgum Grade One Magistrate, denied bail to give the state prosecutor time to study the documents and remanded the trio to Kitgum Government Prison until January 14, 2026, when the ruling on the bail application will be made.

Odwori encourages the parties to engage in dialogue and report back to the court anytime for further action.
