Pajule Town Council residents and business people, as well as nearby Lapul Sub-County and Koyo Lalogi Trading Centre are fed up with persistent power outages.
For over six months, homes and businesses have been plunged into darkness coupled with low voltage supply and frequent blackouts making daily life difficult and sometimes dangerous.
Tito Brilliant Okello, the Chairperson of Pajule Town Council in his letter dated 6th January, 2025 sent a formal notice to UEDCL’s Kitgum Branch warning that if the electricity situation isn’t fixed by today the community will take legal action.
The notice also cites rising costs and losses for residents who have had to rely on generators and solar energy.
Simple services, like photocopying or printing, have doubled in price, putting extra strain on business operators and customers alike.
George Onyango, who runs a bar in Pajule Town says several of his appliances, including speakers and amplifiers, were damaged by frequent power fluctuations. Joel Lakony, Area Manager at UEDCL Kitgum Branch says the transformer had already been scheduled for replacement before the notice arrived.
But, he didn’t discuss the incidences caused by the alleged power outages.
