The National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Aloi Town Council in Alebtong district has been arrested for mismanagement of funds meant to facilitate the party flag bearers for the L.C1 and women council elections.
Patrick Jimmy Okema the North Kyoga police spokesperson says, that Sam Otiti, the NRM Chairperson for Aloi Town Council reportedly received 14.2 million shillings from the NRM office on 22nd July 2026 to facilitate the party flag bearers.
Okema says that Otiti allegedly failed to distribute the funds as intended, prompting complaints from beneficiaries to the Office of the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mathew Lutwama, who subsequently referred the matter to Police for investigation.
Otiti was arrested and is currently in custody at Alebtong Central Police Station.
Okema says that police have since recorded initial witness statements and are continuing with inquiries into the matter.
This brings to two the number of NRM officials arrested in Lango sub region for mismanagement of funds meant for LCI and women council elections.
Olwit Kamilo, the NRM chairperson for Amolatar district was on Tuesday arrested after it emerged that he had disbursed 50,000 shillings instead of 100,000 shillings in all the 16 sub counties.
