Drug abuse is reportedly a leading cause of house breaking and theft in Bardege Layibi division in Gulu City, according to reports from the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Bardege Layibi division Gulu City, Kamba Amir.
Kamba told Favor Fm that the cases are commonly reported in the areas of Paminano, Alokolum and Katikati in Lacor where several household properties, cattle, goats and chicken are being stolen.
According to Kamba the youth are the prime suspects in this, they have gotten so addicted to drugs and under the influence of the drugs, they now go and attack the community.
Kamba says that so far, they have arrested 2 boys who are currently in police cells at Forgod police station while others are still being hunted for.
Kamba asks the members of the community to always report such cases on time such that they are apprehended and face the law.
He asks for the different authorities to unite to catch up such youth who continue disrupting the peace of the community.
Drug abuse in Uganda is a severe public health crisis, primarily affecting the youth and adolescents in urban slums and university campuses, commonly abused substances include alcohol, cannabis, khat (mairungi), and increasingly, hard drugs like cocaine, heroin, and prescription medications like tramadol.
